Four arrests were made after another rhino was found butchered in Kruger National Park.
Kruger National Park was struck again by rhino poachers: Park rangers discovered yet another recently killed rhino with both horns missing during the World Cup final.
This time, four Mozambican nationals were arrested in the park when they were found to have two “freshly chopped” rhino horns in their possession.
According to the Independent, the arrested men had an AK-47, a Mosin-Nagant bolt action rifle, and an axe in their possession.
Throughout the World Cup festivities, Kruger National Park has been the scene of several brutal rhino slayings.
In addition, three Vietnamese nationals were arrested just before the opening ceremonies for attempting to smuggle rhino horn out of South Africa.
Despite the fact rhino horn has been extensively analyzed and found to contain no medicinal properties, the demand for rhino horn “remedies” persists in China and Vietnam – and keeps rhino poaching syndicates in business.
